One Of Those “And More” Posts

One thing I have learned over the years is that we are all born with gifts and talents. Some discover this by accident, some just know it and some don’t recognize them as gifts and or talents.

When we excel in certain areas that is because we are gifted or have the talent to do so. Some things we learn but other things just come natural…those are gifts and or talents

I grew up loving and wanting to have a lot of babies. Several years went by with me only having one child.

I was in my early 30’s when my husband and I became foster parents. It wasn’t long before they were sending us only babies with special needs. I discovered quickly that I had been blessed with the gift to love and care for those babies and then let go of them feeling fulfilled. Had God not given me the gift to do that I would not have been able to do it. I had no idea until after the fact that desire for wanting a lot of babies was preparing me to be a foster and adoptive parent and use the gifts and talents I had been given.

Another thing I do that comes natural to me is give hugs. I give them in person, in cards and letters, via the internet and in text messages. I believe this is a gift…I have hugged many people, some I knew well, some casually and some were total strangers.

I have never been turned down for a hug or pushed away when I went to hug someone. I am not comfortable in crowds and don’t like shopping because of that. Yet there have been times while among a crowd of strangers I walked up to someone, started a conversation and gave them a hug that was needed and appreciated.

The following are examples of my take on gifts and talents…

One who excels in and loves math was not given their gift to just be able to balance their checkbook.

One who excels in and loves cooking was not given their gift to just cook meals for themselves and or family.

One who loves sports and excels in one or more was not given their gift to just play in the yard with their family and neighbors.

One who loves and excels in music was not given their gift to just sing in the shower.

One who has a love for medicine was not given their gift to just bandage scrapes and cuts.

I could go on but won’t.

I believe our gifts and talents were given to us as a means to help provide for ourselves and family and to help and bless others no matter what those gifts and talents are.

Feel free to share some of your gifts and talents here if you would like…I would very much enjoy hearing what they are.

  1. IMaggie one of your other talents/gifts is your compassion. Since we first met a very long time ago on Yahoo 360 blog you have been a loyal friend & so understanding! I’m blessed to know you.
A few of my gifts are writing poetry & short stories & blogging as my cats of course; seeing a situation from all angles & gardening…I’m actually getting better at it!
    Much ❤ & (((hugs))) Sherri-Ellen

    1. Oh, sweet Sherri-Ellen you have warmed my heart. Thank you for your kind words. Thank you too for sharing your gifts. I am blessed to know you and have enjoyed your sweet cats and all of your blogs. You will have to share some gardening photos on your blog. Love and hugs

      1. You were one of the first to welcome me to Blog world way back in 2005….I am still friends with 8 originals from that site. You & I the only one still blogging. There have been so many changes at THE Purrfect Pad over the years…..
Next year (G-D willing) I’ll do more gardening photos! Now everything is under a foot & more of snow!
        ❤ & {{hugs}} always, Sherri-Ellen

      2. I had to smile when I read this. I am also still friends with 8 originals. There were 9 but one passed away a few years ago. Only 3 of which still blog counting you and myself. I will be looking forward to seeing your gardening photos when it is time. Hugs

      3. 8 is still a good number….Do you remember Toby Kaufman from New York/ Florida??? She had Waldo & 8Ball the cats? She & I became like Aunty & Niece. We spoke many times on the phone & wrote cards & letters. She died this year of Brain Cancer…..that was the start of this year going down the drain for me! I miss her so much!!!
All the others are still going strong on FB except for Pearl Holt….she now has Macular degeneration so is rarely online….
Thankfully we are still here holding the fort down so to speak Maggie! 😉

      4. No, I do not remember Toby. I am sorry that she passed and I know you must really miss her. Yep, we are still holding down the fort. lol I am so grateful that so many of my family and friends are still here on this earth.

      5. It was such a long time ago Maggie….I can barely remember the others who blogged on 360 who have drifted away. Toby was an aunty to me & she became a good friend. So losing her was difficult. I’ve lost alot of good friends here locally & on PC this year….it seems I spent most of this year crying over someone….either 2 or 4 legged! My wish for 2019 is for all of us to be well & no one else dies!

  2. I’m so impressed with what you’ve done with special needs children. My mother in law did the same thing and gained a lot of happiness from caring for these children.

  3. Oh, what a sweet and magical gift you have. There is nothing quite like giving someone a hug. It is even more special that you foster children. Fosterijg special needs children must be so rewarding. Thanks for being such a beautiful gift to the world. ❤

    1. Thank you for the nice comment. The years of fostering the children were some of the most wonderful years of my life. You are right about hugs and everyone needs them. Hugs

  4. Beautiful post, Sis ❤ I've been privy to your gifts of love. I thank you for all the courage and heart that you've sent my way. You are a blessing in my life.

I was fortunate to be loved by my Mother and my Grandmother. They raised me to be thoughtful and caring–to never turn my back on someone who needed help. I hope I've done them proud.

Thank you for these positive words. My day is sunny again ❤

    1. I could say the same of you sweet Sis. You have brought sunshine to me at times and I love you much. Thank you for all you are and have done for me. Hugs ❤

  5. Always enjoy a good hug. If I have any talents at all it is as a patient and non-judgmental listener.

    1. Oh, sweet friend you can add to that list of talents/gifts a fantastic sense of humor and top-notch blogger. I am sure you have others too. Hugs
